Silentium Dolomites Chalet since 1600

Silentium Dolomites Chalet since 1600

Peaceful break at the old chalet

Silentium Dolomites Chalet (since 1600) is a chalet-style farmhouse located in the woods of Monguelfo, in the northern region of the Dolomites.

The original name includes the expression "since 1600" and it is said to be a newly renovated building of the old South Tyrolean style farmhouse Chalet Rainstaller, built in the 16th century.

Although it is a farmhouse in the countryside, it is a place with over 500 years of tradition and history. According to the architect Klaus Helbig, who was in charge of the reconstruction, the old building was not revived in the old way, but a building that was reborn by leaving or reviving something meaningful and adding new things as needed.

The reviews here can be summarised as follows: The main attraction is, as the name suggests (Silentium, a place of silence), it is the perfect place to find relaxation and peace in nature, and above all the afternoon tea snacks prepared by the owner, Auntie Evie, and the simple home-cooked dinner are unforgettable experiences. All meals prepared at the chalet are organic and locally sourced from neighbouring farms in the valley. Herbal teas and jams are made from ingredients grown on the farm, butter and cheese come from the nearby farm and trout are caught in the nearby valley.

In addition to the uniqueness and the warmth of the table that you will experience during your stay in the refuge, it is of course an ideal starting point for trekking to Lake Brace and the Val Fustria valley, the heart of the Northern Dolomites Trekking. The first guests who stayed here also mentioned that they could refresh themselves after the trek in the chalet's sauna and in the clear stream next to the chalet.

If it weren't for the big city and transport problems, I would look for small, old-fashioned places to stay that are run by families or individuals as much as possible, because in such places I can spend time interacting with the owners as a 'traveller' rather than a 'guest' and enjoy a service that is not stereotypical. Silentiun Chalet seems to fit the bill.
