Affittacamere Le Camere Nel Corso

La Spezia

Warm hospitality and neat tidiness

Affittacamere Le Camere Nel Corso is a guesthouse in the centre of La Spezia, the gateway to the Cinque Terre. When travelling in Italy you will often see accommodation in small towns called 'Affittacamere'. This is a type of bed and breakfast or room rental where part of the building is rented out to guests.

La Spezia is the starting point for the train journey to the villages of the Cinque Terre. If you have time, you can take a morning stroll around the port of La Spezia. The Cinque Terre are small villages built on narrow cliffs and are mainly made up of small fishing boats, but the port of La Spezia, where the Italian navy's base is located, is a different scene with yachts of all shapes and sizes.

Le Camerene Nel Corso is located in the centre of La Spezia, less than 10 minutes walk from La Spezia's main railway station. Passing through the common entrance and staircase, you will find a small lobby with five rooms, each with a spacious bathroom.

The room, with a tiled floor and white walls, is simply furnished with a bed, a chair and a table, all is very tidy. The bed linen, towels and bathroom shelves are as clean as in any hotel or other expensive accommodation, and the reason for this is Mrs Cristina, who sweeps and cleans meticulously. She even tidies up the luggage, which is in a mess.

The guesthouse is run by Mrs Cristina and her daughter Julia, who can give you information about train times to Cinque terre, local restaurants and other local information that only the locals know. In particular, Cristina went out of her way to make sure that the restaurant served us well when we arrived from Florence, starving and exhausted after a long journey. Thanks, Cristina!

The quality of accommodation is not about the decor or the view, it is about the people you meet in the place you stay.

Ligurian basil pesto

The basil pesto at the hillside restaurant overlooking Manarola was highly recommended by Mrs Cristina.

In the Cinque Terre, the olive trees are cultivated on terraces in the narrow mountainous areas along the coast of Liguria. The olives are said to be of the highest quality, picked by hand one by one in the seemingly barren coastal fields.

The basil pesto made with pine nuts and basil in this olive oil is a Ligurian speciality!
