Weltenburg Abbey in the Danube Gorge
The St. Georg Guesthouse is located in Weltenburg Abbey, which is situated in the Danube Gorge. Located in the northern area halfway between Nuremberg and Munich, the abbey is a baroque building that stands majestically on the banks of the Danube as it winds its way down a rocky cliff.
The abbey is surrounded by the river, so to get there you have to take a ferry from Kelheim and travel along the Danube for about 30 minutes. This is also a unique experience, giving you the feeling of being in a medieval monastery. According to reviews from previous guests, 'the world's oldest and best beer in a small beer garden, overlooking the peaceful and beautiful Danube landscape' was cited as the best experience.
As befits monastic accommodation, the rooms are simply furnished with a bed, chair and table. They have been renovated in a simple but clean way. Many people also praise the staff for being friendly and cheerful, contrary to the somewhat heavy image of a monastery. A peaceful and quiet evening stroll through the monastery is a privilege that only guests staying here can enjoy.

Wish List
Here is a wish list of places I would like to stay on my next trip, including a monastic brewery and brewery accommodation in Bavaria that I missed on my last few trips to Germany.
Weltenburg Abbey & beer

The first monastery was built in the Danube Gorge around the 7th century, making it one of the oldest and most historic Benedictine monasteries in Bavaria. It is said that a brewery was built in the abbey in 1050.
The Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel, the Asam-Bock and the Anno 1050 are still the most representative beers that have won medals at the World Beer Awards. For your information, the church at the Benedictine Abbey of Weltenburg is built in the 'Baroque' style, and the name of the architect responsible for this Baroque architecture is 'Asam'.
There are, however, a number of strict rules because it is a monastery. You have to check in by 6pm and the monastery restaurant closes at 7pm. If you miss it, you have to drink beer without dinner. They also say there is no air conditioning in the summer and no Wi-Fi. But I would gladly trade those comforts for a glass of Weltenburg Dunkel.
