Agriturismo Fattoria Viticcio
Greve in Chianti, Tuscany

Chianti wine tasting and winery accommodation
Fattoria Viticcio is an agriturismo that is also a winery. It is not far from Greve in Chianti, the first 'slow town' in Italy.
When I asked a local about the word 'Fattoria', he said it meant a farm that grows grapes and makes its own wine, all by hand. Fattoria Viticcio is a family farm that is not small in size. There is a farmhouse inn, an agriturismo and a barbecue area where you can have a barbecue on the terrace by the pool, in a corner of the vast hillside covered in vines.
I came here because I wanted to meet the people who make Chianti Classico, the region's speciality wine. Viticcio produces about 250,000 bottles a year and the quality of the wine is said to be excellent. This is because the vineyards are farmed using organic methods and new experiments are being introduced into the traditional Chianti tradition.
You can also visit famous brand wineries with luxurious and stylish interiors and facilities such as Banfi and Antinori when visiting wineries in Tuscany.
But if you go to a small, family-run winery in the countryside, you can talk directly to the farmers. Even if the wine is not famous brand, they have been passionate about their work for generations. As well as learning about the grapes and wines, you can get tips on the local lifestyle and travel, and feel the friendly atmosphere.
The winery tour includes a tour of the vineyard, wine-making facilities and cellars lined with wooden barrels for storing wine, as well as a tasting of four different wines and a plate of homemade cheese, salami and bread. There is also a special workshop where you can make your own wine blend.
